kith and kids employment and life skills
Weekday project for young adults to develop skills for work or further education.
This is a mentoring role to support people with mild/moderate learning disabilities and/or autism to develop skills to access further education, employment opportunities, and mainstream community facilities. We also run healthy living activities such as yoga, zumba and football.

As a volunteer mentor you will be directly helping people to learn skills based on your own life experience including sourcing employment opportunities, living alone and travelling on public transport.  Getting paid work and being independent are all things we often take for granted.  For people in the ELSP group these things are hard to achieve without support.

So if you’ve ever written a CV or a shopping list, travelled on the tube or bus, budgeted for a weeks living costs or applied for a course, you would be just the sort of person we need.

The project runs on Monday to Friday during term time.  We ask that volunteers commit to at least 35 hours per term so that you can build a good rapport with the members of the group.

Thursday evenings
A group of able people with mild learning disabilities or autism meets one Thursday evening a month (alternating between evenings in and out) to develop the social skills necessary to live a more independent life.

The project focuses on planning, organisational and social skills. With the support of volunteers the participants choose and organise fun activities for everyone to enjoy as a group. In the past we’ve had a games night, music quiz and a world food tasting for our evenings in. Evenings out have included going to the cinema, a comedy night, open mic sessions and lots more. Thursday evening are a whole lot of fun and give the group a chance to socialise with their peers.

As a volunteer you will join in on these activities and help to encourage members of the group to be more confident in social situations and develop the skills needed to achieve greater independence.
