Rob Searle is currently completing a Masters Degree in Fine Art, at Wimbledon School of Art, in London: following four years of undergraduate studies at the Surrey Institute of Art and Design. His artistic area of enquiry is concerned with examining the subversive power of play: exploring a game’s potential to alter its players’ thoughts and emotions beyond the rational. The phenomena of play and games, and in particular, the moments that overwhelm and completely absorb the player form an essential area of research.
The three submitted works depict the creation of art from the footballer’s perspective of today’s global game. Marks and holes are generated in the artworks by striking footballs at their surfaces.
In his spare time he enjoys coaching a local disabled football team, and also plays football at semi-professional level. ‘This is a creation of art from the footballer’s perspective of today’s game. I aim to create artworks which consider what Football culture means to society. I produce works by doing what I love....Playing football. I generate marks and holes in my works by striking footballs at their surfaces.’
