I work in paper clay and most of my pieces are raku fired. Paper clay is light when fired and before firing allows the sculptor a lot of flexibility, therefore ideally suited to the kind of work I produce. Inspiration comes from the ‘beautiful game’-football. My love of the game has grown with my sons, watching them play at grassroots level and sharing their enthusiasm for the professional game. There is a charge of passion in the players’ movement and expressions, athleticism, energy, and electric spontaneity which all combine in the game. I try to capture something of that in my sculptures.
