James Burke Reserve: £5000.00 - 'Tottenham Hotspur Football Club' Silver acrylic with aluminium spaces (bolts) - 100 cm x 100 cm ‘I have always been fuelled by an unquenchable thirst for being creative. I have always been fascinated by graffiti from as early as I can remember, I loved the fact that people put themselves at such risk for a love of painting and expressionism and the anonymity just made it even more intriguing. This inspired me to take a path in ‘art’ throughout my education, which culminated in a study of contemporary arts at Manchester Met. University. This course was pivotal for me and changed the way I viewed the Arts, encouraging me to blur the boundaries between different art disciplines and question everything. It was on this course that, after a conversation with childhood friend Dan Glazer, I set about conceptualizing what is now acrylize…. The success of my final degree show made me hungry for more and the progression from a uni. project into the ‘real world’ felt like a natural path to take. Highlights for me so far have been exhibiting with Gavin Turk – whom I studied closely at Uni. directing the arts schemes at the Emirates Stadium and designing a range of artworks for Marvel comics. Above all, being able to do what I love everyday and watch other people respond so positively to what we are doing fuels me to take it further and further………’ I would like to say a big thank you to all the people who have helped with this particular piece: Beth Burke, Barry Burke, Daniel Burke, Daniel Thompson at empics, Jamie Leigh and Michael Myers. |
